About Us
Nestled at the foot of Pendle the Calf's Head is a Country
House Hotel, Restaurant and Watering Hole with a history
stretching back at least 400 years. The current building
was built in late Victorian times replacing an ale
farmhouse on the site. Part of the cellar is from that
original building. It remained attached to a working farm
up until the 1950's.
In 1998 the hotel was scheduled to be closed and converted
to a private residence when the current owners bought the
premises. It has become a very popular Ribble Valley
location and 10 years on the owners continue to give it
their personal attention.
The hotel now has eleven en suite quality letting bedrooms
individually appointed.
Facilities exist for wedding receptions including civil
ceremonies, private parties and functions.
Dining at the Calf's Head is as varied as most could wish,
for both resident and non-resident clientele. An extensive
menu is served in either formal restaurant surroundings or
the more relaxed 60 plus cover "Glass House" or the bar
area. Given a nice day you can even eat outside on the
large decking area or in the extensive garden with its
stream and beautiful views across to Pendle Hill.
The food on offer using local produce where possible,
ranges from the traditional to an international flavour.
With a team of chefs we are able to provide special dietary
foods as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes. If you are
around on a Sunday then you can enjoy a three course
carvery from 12-3.00pm but booking for this is essential.
Abundant in walking opportunities, the surrounding
countryside provides for the gentle stroll or the more
severe fell climb. Just two miles from the castle town of
Clitheroe the Calf's Head can be easily accessed and
provides an excellent base for touring local attractions
and further afield to the Lakes, Dales and the
coast.
